Lawful Interception

Lawful interception (LI) is the process of obtaining real-time IP-network forensic data. This collected data is in gerneral delivered to the lawful authority for analysis or to assure evidence. The forensic data generally consists of signaling and network management information (meta data) or the content of the communications (IP-payload).

If the forensics can not be obtained in real-time, the collection of meta data or payload could be done based on retained data (Data Retention). This data was previously collected and stored by the network service provider.
The base for all LI activity is the interception of telecommunications by law enforcement agencies (LEAs), regulatory or administrative agencies, and intelligence services, in accordance with local laws.
Under some jurisdictions, the implementation - particularly real-time access to content - may require authorization from competent authorities. This process was formerly known as "wiretapping" and has existed since the introduction of electronic communications.

DN-Systems International offers consulting advice to LEAs and telecommunication operators, how to comply with mandates in different regulatory environments worldwide.
